Driven by texture
Ola and Hi, muito prazer, nice to meet you! I'm Nanah. You might notice the initials NAS on my work. They come from my time as an editor - a small habit that stayed with me.
A lot has changed since then. Today I shape material instead of words. Still telling stories - just in a different way.
Portugal and the Atlantic coast are a constant source of inspiration for my work and find their way into both my paintings and my jewelry. Portugal's textures, cork, driftwood, sand, salt, lies at the heart of everything I create. It brings depth and a sense of soul to each piece - whether on canvas, in sculpture, or through metalwork.
I'm self-taught, perhaps that's why I approach art with an open and curious perspective. To me, a canvas doesn' t have to be colorful or conventionally beautiful, just as jewelry doesn't need to sparkle or appear refined. I'm drawn to pieces that are raw and imperfect - sometimes even rough and unexpected. Because that's where character and authenticy emerge.
Especially all materials left behind by the ocean and found along Portugal's beaches continously fascinate and inspire me. I aim to translate their patterns and textures a lot into my work.
